The Amazing Spiderman 2 has earned more than $400 million worldwide, a staggering feat for any superhero movie and a record for a live-action superhero movie.
The second installment of the MCU-led franchise opened with $160 million in domestic box office on Monday.
That was the biggest opening weekend for any MCU film, and is the second-biggest opening for any live-actor movie.
Thats a record-setting performance, eclipsing the $157 million earned by Captain America: Civil War last year.
It also puts the first Spider-man movie ahead of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.
2 ($174 million).
“Amazing Spider-Movies are a big part of the entertainment landscape,” said Marvel Studios Chief Creative Officer Kevin Feige, who is overseeing the studio’s third summer release.
“This summer marks the beginning of the next phase of our journey with the MCUs, which will culminate in the first movie in our new franchise, which is now tentatively scheduled for release June 12.
It will be the culmination of our many years of planning and vision, and we are extremely excited to bring this story to life.
The Amazing Spidey 2, directed by Andrew Garfield and written by Stan Lee, will open in theaters June 12 for a limited run of 4,000 theaters.
The film will also feature a “Spidey Day” event that will allow fans to enter the theater for free to get a first look at the movie and have their questions answered.
The event is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. and run through 1:30 p.m., with screenings scheduled for 4:30 and 6 p.c.

That’s not entirely accurate.
The film is set in a post-apocalyptic world where a group of people known as the Spider-Men are battling a threat known as “The Sentinels,” which are a race of alien beings that seek to control the universe.
The Sentinils are led by Peter Parker, who discovers that he has powers that allow him to see invisible and intangible entities.
He later joins the Avengers as a member of the team.
The Avengers, with the help of the Guardians of Hope, have teamed up with the Avengers to fight back against the Sentinil threat.
“There’s a big conflict going on with some of the Sentins and their leader called the Collector. “
It’s a super-powered superhero movie,” Marvel Studios President Kevin Feig told the press at the film’s May 27 press event.
“There’s a big conflict going on with some of the Sentins and their leader called the Collector.
They want control of the universe, so they’ve put some super-humans into place to fight for them.
They’ve got Spider-Woman, Spider-Girl, and a Spider-Ham.”
It’s been rumored that the Spiderman and Spider-Hammers are a nod to Marvel’s iconic character Peter Parker.
Feige hinted in May that the film would feature a cameo from “Peter Parker” in some way.
The other major character in the movie is a supervillain known as Electro.
Electro is voiced by Daniel Bruhl, who also voiced Spider-Punk in the comics.
Electro first appeared in The Amazing Spiders Adventures #6 in the 1940s, and he’s made his way through various versions of the character over the years.
Electro appeared in several Marvel comics in the 1960s, including Spider-Verse #7 in 1972, Spider Man #11 in 1974, Spiderman: The Video Game in 1979, SpiderMan #22 in 1980, Spider Parker: Spider-Villain by 1980, and Spider Man: Super Hero by 1991.
The first SpiderMan movie starred Tom Holland as the titular superhero, as well as Michael Keaton as Spider-Backed, Eddie Brock, Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Peter Venkman, the Spiders’ resident spider, as Electro, and the Human Torch/Spider-Man duo of Eddie Brock/Peter Parker/Brock/Peter.
The movie also starred Dane DeHaan, John Malkovich, Josh Brolin, James Franco, Karen Gillan, Dan Stevens, Laura Harrier, and Michael Cera.
The Spider-Galaxy event will air during the movie’s theatrical run.
Fans can get their first look on June 12 when a “Spider-Day” event will allow them to enter a theater and ask questions about the film.
They can also sign up for the event through social media.
The Avengers, Guardians of Asgard, and Guardians of Earth are also set to return for the summer.
