The Taliban have killed 12 people at a US base, the Pentagon said on Wednesday, after the Afghan government blamed the Islamic militants for the attack.
The death toll from the attack was not immediately available, and no group claimed responsibility.
The Taliban have been accused of a series of attacks on US military installations in Afghanistan over the past year, including a series targeting the military and a US drone base.
The US has blamed the Taliban for the attacks and said it would take additional measures to protect the facility.US officials have blamed the Afghan Taliban for a series in recent years of attacks against the United States military.
In a statement issued through the US embassy in Kabul, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani called the Taliban a “foreign and illegitimate force” that was committing war crimes and committing crimes against humanity in Afghanistan.
“The United States condemns these barbaric attacks on Afghan security forces and civilians, and we will not allow it to happen again,” he said.
“We will not tolerate the Taliban’s impunity.
We will not let the Taliban use Afghanistan for their political and economic gain.”
Afghan security forces have been targeted by the Taliban in recent months, with the group claiming responsibility for at least 14 attacks since December.
